During the academic year, student assistants enrolled in graduate school at Duke's Nicholas School of the Environment & Earth Sciences work with Forest staff members on a variety of projects related to the general maintenance and improvement of the Forest. Such activities include:

  • Road and fire trail maintenance
  • Forest management projects
  • Inventorying and marking timber in preparation for its sale
  • Gate and sign improvement
  • Boundary line location and marking
  • Organizing forest records
  • GPS data collection
  • GIS data entry
